Three Important Ways of Achieving a Healthy Mouth

Brushing Daily

Brushing one’s teeth should never be skipped under any circumstances. In fact, dentists advise that teeth should be brushed at least twice daily, the more, the better. Using the right kind of toothpaste follows next. One should completely ensure that the toothpaste used causes no harm at all to the person. For instance a diabetic should avoid using a toothpaste with sugar as an ingredient.

While brushing, not even a single tooth should be missed out. The brush should be rightly angled at the gum line before starting. The front and back of a tooth should also be brushed followed by brushing the tongue. Only plain water should be used for rinsing the mouth. A toothbrush should be changed every three months and the bristles should be soft enough so as to avoid any injury to gums or teeth.

Flossing everyday

Flossing is an act of cleaning the region in between the teeth which is generally out of reach of a toothbrush. Majority of the people are ignorant about flossing and generally avoid it when it comes to dental care. A floss string comes in various forms, waxed, flavoured, without wax, among others.

It should be minimum 18 inches in length. Given below are a few steps to follow while flossing:

  • A floss string should be tied on the middle finger of both the hands.
  • A strong grip should be ensured on the floss string between the index finger and thumb of each hand.
  • One should start first with the lower teeth located in the front, followed by the upper teeth in the front and then the rest of the teeth should be flossed.
  • The floss should be worked in such a way so as to reach the gum line followed by curving it around the teeth in order to slip it under the gum.
  • This should be followed by sliding it down and up on both the sides of a tooth.

Finding the Right Dentist

One of the most significant aspects of Dental Care and Hygiene is to come across a perfect dentist. Primarily a dentist with a high standard of professionalism should be approached.

One should ensure that one’s dentist is fully aware of all the latest technological developments and modes of treatments in dentistry. The dentist should possibly be a member of the Academy of General Dentistry (AGD) that is well-known for its high quality care for patients and its ethics.

Secondarily, the dentist’s clinic should be at a convenient location close to one’s home or workplace which would enhance an easier access during times of emergency. A dentist should excel at keeping his patient at ease. People often get nervous and start panicking while coming across dental instruments.

It becomes essential for a dentist to calm his patient down and win over his trust before getting started with the treatment. One should also look out whether sedation dentistry, the one that involves use of sedatives like pills, gas, etc. is apart of the treatment or not.

Finally, a dentist’s fees should be reasonable. This also includes aspects of dental insurance which generally involves a few free health check-ups and consultations with the dentist. Hence, it becomes important to get in touch with a dentist in alignment with one’s dental insurance plan.
