Please note: the use of cannabis for medial or recreational purposes may be illegal in your country. Healthiack.com does not encourage the use of this substance.
There are many reasons why you might want to travel with CBD. It might be that you take it regularly and can’t imagine not taking it whilst you are away, or maybe that you are a nervous flyer who wants to benefit from its relaxing properties before and during your flight.
With the laws and rules around CBD being confusing at best, traveling with it isn’t necessarily as simple as taking it with you, however. Different states have different laws, and different countries have different laws. This means that you have to be really careful about where you are taking your CBD to, especially if you are based somewhere that medicinal and recreational cannabis is legal.
There are still some countries in the world where cannabis (in whatever form) is illegal and punishments can be very harsh. Here you will find everything that you need to know about traveling with CBD.
Why do people want to travel with CBD?
What is CBD or cannabidiol – it is one of the Phyto cannabinoids which is naturally found in cannabis. There are over 100 significant cannabinoids including CBD and THC, and these have been found to have a number of health benefits for people who take them.
These cannabinoids have an effect on the endocannabinoid system in the human body – the system which is responsible for keeping our bodies internally balanced and working at an optimum level. When CBD is taken, it interacts with the endocannabinoid system (in a similar way to the natural cannabinoids which are in the body) and can enhance its effect.
This means that CBD can be great for keeping your body healthy and boosting your general well-being, as well as having some more specific properties.
General Good Health
One of the main reasons that you would want to take CBD wherever you are traveling to is because it can generally help you to maintain good health. And why would you want to miss out on that whilst you’re away?
CBD can help to keep your immune system in tip top shape, help you to deal with pain, get your digestive system working properly and even help you to sleep.
Anxiety about Flying
CBD can also be very useful if you are a nervous traveler – and get anxious about flying, annoyed with kids running around or stressed about delays. One of the major health benefits of CBD is that it can help to reduce anxiety in people.
If you are dreading that flight overseas, taking some CBD beforehand can help you to take anything that you trip might throw at you, in your stride.
Taking CBD with you
Although it’s easy to see why you would want to take CBD with you on your trip, unfortunately, it’s not simple. In fact, unless you are traveling within the country or state, and NOT by plane, you would be better off leaving it at home.
Wherever you are going, it is important to check what the laws and rules are with regards to CBD, THC and other cannabis derived products. They can vary greatly depending on where you are in the world.
If you are going to be flying somewhere, you should not take any CBD products with you on the plane. If you are flying internationally, it is best not to take it with you on the plane as most countries will not let you take it in, and many might come down hard on you.
Within the USA, the TSA (Transportation Security Administration) stipulate that “Possession of marijuana and cannabis infused products, such as Cannabidiol CBD oils, is illegal under federal law” [1].
This means that you cannot take CBD on any internal flights in the USA.
Another obstacle that you could face is through the fact that, regardless of what is written on the bottle, it can be difficult for drug enforcement agencies to know exactly what it is in it. This means that they are likely to err on the side of caution and assume that it is illegal if they find it.
The solutions
It is unfortunate for may people that CBD cannot be taken on flights, but there are some solutions.
If you are taking CBD for general health
If you are enjoying the benefits of CBD on your general well-being and take it to maintain a healthy body, the best thing that you can do is try to get hold of CBD products when you get to your destination.
Although there are many countries where they are not legal, we are seeing increasing numbers of countries that are making hemp-derived products legal and more and more CBD rich products available. Do some research before you go away about the laws where you are going and look into where you might be able to buy your CBD products.
If you want to take CBD for your fear of flying
Even if you don’t have a fully-fledged fear of flying, CBD could help. A lot of people get a bit nervous before flying and try to take the edge off it with an alcoholic drink – which isn’t ideal. CBD can give you a calming sensation and feeling of tranquillity, helping you to stay relaxed on your flight and even help you to sleep.
Due to the fact that you can’t take your CBD with you, the best idea is to take it before you check in.
There are a number of different ways that you can take CBD, but the most popular are vaping through an e-pen, taking drops or a spray under the tongue, and through edibles (either capsules or with CBD-infused food).
Of these methods, the best option for you if you are hoping the CBD will calm your flying nerves is through edibles. When you vape or use sublingual CBD oil, the CBD enters your bloodstream almost immediately and has a relatively short-term effect.
If you take CBD through edibles, however, it takes longer to be absorbed into your bloodstream as it has to go through the digestive system – usually taking between 20 minutes and 2 hours to come into effect. This also means that it stays in the bloodstream for longer. So, if you have to check in two hours before your flight, the CBD should be in full effect once you are on the plane.
You can take your CBD before you check in, and there’ll be no need to take any through with you. Of course, if you think that you would benefit from CBD on your way back, you will need to try to find some wherever you are visiting.
Although it is safe and there have never been any fatal CBD overdoses, it is important that you don’t leave your first time with CBD to when you are traveling. The effect of CBD can be different for every individual and you need to find out what the best dosage is for you.
By trying it out at home first, you can understand what side-effects you feel (if any) and make adjustments to your dosage to ensure that you get the most out of the CBD.
There are a number of reasons why you might want to travel with CBD. Unfortunately, with different laws around the world, we are not in a position to be able to just carry our CBD with us wherever we go.
It is not recommended that you carry CBD with you on any flights, but as more and more people are seeing the benefits of CBD, the laws are changing, and it is becoming increasingly available around the world. This means that it is more likely that you will be able to get CBD in the place that you are visiting and be able to continue to enjoy the health properties that CBD can bring.
