Fish oil contains a lot of vitamin A and vitamin D. Although there are no known side effects of consuming too much fish oil you still need to be careful. Consuming too much vitamin A can produce side effects such as:

  • digestive problems.
  • Overdose of vitamin D can increase levels of phosphate and calcium in your body.

    Consuming fish oil supplements is the best and most practical way of consuming fish oil. The other way would be to actually eat fish.

    Always take fish oil supplement right before / after your meal. You need to consume fish oil with regular food for best effect.

  • Oil that is made of cod fish liver. Such oil is particularly rich in vitamin A and D but contains less omega-3 fatty acids.
  • Oil that is made from the meat of fish that live in cold seas (eg tuna, salmon, herring …). Such fish oil contains a lot of omega-3 fatty acid.
  • Fish that live in freshwater contain little omega 3.

    How much fish oil per day?

    This dosage might be increased if prescribed so by your doctor. Consuming much more fish oil (few large tablespoons daily) will not benefit you more.

    Also, consuming too much fat per day may lead to obesity because of the higher calorie intake. Fish oil may be consumed anytime throughout the day, although it is advised that is consumed right before / during or right after the meal.
