Raw food Superstars: 8 Celebs who juice

Forget handheld dogs and Prada purses, green juices have become the accessory du jour in tinseltown. The need to stay trim and glowing with health for the imperfection seeking HD screens has put green juices at the top of the A list for a whole host of current celebrities.

So just who is reaping the benefits of nutrient rich juices to get red-carpet ready in Hollywood? Here is a run down of eight top dogs in entertainment industry who are advocates of juicing.

1. Gwyneth Paltrow

This starlet-turned-lifestyle-blogger is one of a host of entrepreneurial celebrities who have turned healthy lifestyles into big business. With her dedication to clean eating (macrobiotic diet anyone?) and regular detox cleanses, the actress often extolls the benefits of juice cleanses on her Goop website and blog.

Gwyneth often partakes in a 3-5 day organic cleanse provided by Organic Avenue, a health and wellness company based in New York whenever she happens to be there.

“I adore OA,” she admitted in a recent interview.

2. Nicole Ritchie

This slim star is a huge fan of juice cleanses, often partaking in a week-long cleanse and is a regular at Pressed Juicery as well as Zen Foods – both located in Beverly Hills, California.

Known for her very slim figure, which she puts down to watching what she eats and following the Tracy Anderson method of exercise, Nicole Ritchie is a darling of the fashion world and has her own House of Harlow line in the states.

The reality star loves juicing so much she once teamed up with fellow celeb Ryan Seacrest to try and convince Kim Kardashian to get on the juicing trend via Twitter. Now that’s dedication!

3. Woody Harrelson

Harrelson’s culinary habits not only include longer than usual juice cleanses (up to 38 days), but the actor and eco-activist also says he sticks to a mostly raw-foods, vegan diet. No wonder his energy is off the charts.

He revealed that he had his awakening moment in Hawaii where he lived because of all the organic farms that were located there. He believes in raw food power so much that he raised his kids as vegans and not “live-foodists”.

4. Russell Simmons

The hip-hop pioneer and founder of Rush Communications has been a vegan for the last 14 years. Simmons revealed that he always has green juice for breakfast on Sundays before getting into his regular routine of morning meditation, biking around the city of NY, chanting, sweating and tweeting prayers before bed.

With a list of activities such as that, a green juice is the perfect boost to maintain energy levels all day.

5. Blake Lively

It can take just one amazing juice to kickstart a new lifestyle habit as Blake Lively will testify. In an interview, Lively said, “A few years ago, I had a juice that changed it all for me—a mix that’s better than any po’ boy (seafood sammy) you’ll ever eat.

Vegetables in their purest form are refreshing and palate-cleansing, while the sweet notes of the fruits and mint make this both quenching and intoxicating. Now I can get my dose of veggies in a delicious way.”

The juice she referred to was a mixture of kale, Swiss chard leaves, parsley, beet, pineapple, green apples, mint and half a lemon – one of the most popular concoctions made using cold press juicers around the globe.

6. Debra Messing

The former Will and Grace star is another advocate of juicing for life. “Every morning on set I have my ‘green drink’, which is spinach, kale, cucumber, lemon, celery, and green apple,” Messing said in an interview.

Just like some of us normal citizens, not all celebrities tend to be big fans of vegetables and for Messing, this form of food is what makes it easier for her to get her daily recommended amount.

“I’m not a big green vegetable eater, so the juice really has filled a huge void in my diet, and I feel stronger for it,” she admitted.

7. Alicia Silverstone

For over a decade and a half, this actress has been a strict vegan. Instead, the former Batman and Robin star often incorporates green juice into her diet.

She compiled all of her experiences, tips and recipes into a book called The Kind Diet: A Simple Guide to Feeling Great, Losing Weight, and Saving the Planet, and a corresponding social-networking site, the Kind Life, which both came out in 2009. Not so Clueless, after all.

8. Beyonce

Queen Bey is an advocate of a master cleanse known as the lemon detox diet, a modified juice fast recipe which involves lemons and maple syrup, which was created by Stanley Burroughs in the 1940’s. Apparently she used it to lose 20 pounds within the course of 14 days for her role in Dreamgirls.

Other users of this master cleanse have included Naomi Campbell and Rob Quivers but none advocate for this more than Beyonce.

So, there you have it. A tabloid newspapers-worth of A-listers who all swear by the power of juice taken from humble raw fruit and veg.
